Show off your best bits

The inaugural nook art exhibition first — dreamed up by The Shadow and mapped out among some nook diehards – is coming to fruition and coming to Leader’s Blackburn office. Pencil August 14 into your diary now for this invitiation-only event.

Come along, see some art, meet some fellow nookers and hear about some upcoming features we’ll be launching soon.

Of course, for this exhibition to work, we’re going to need your best bits of art, so we’re calling for expressions of interest. Send an email to the admin team by Friday July 20.  You’ll need to attach a photo of the art you want to show, along with the dimensions of each piece you wish to put on display.

Numbers are limited. So be sure to email early if you are interested in exhibiting your works.

Inclusion as a guest or exhibitor at the star event will be by invitation-only. (News on how to register as a guest will be posted at nook in the next few weeks).

[The following added 1:45pm, 4 July 2007]

The fine print: Leader Newspapers is calling for expressions of interest from nook artists to submit their work for consideration in the exhibition. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must send an expression of interest to LDRnook.admin@leadernewspapers.com.au and include their name and contact details, a photo of the artwork and its dimensions. Artwork chosen for the exhibition is at the sole discretion of Leader Newspapers or its nominate representatives.

    Awesome!! :D It’s really happening!

I’m wondering, how many pieces of art each? (so I know what to send to the Admin team).

I have to get a bulk order from Daryl Lee:)

This might be a little arrogant, but could we call it Shadow’s Nook Ëxhibiton. Perhaps, if theshadow is a good boy, he might be allowed to attend.

Yep, pencil me in for as many pieces you want.

Lady Chaos - five is the current “magic” number. If we are flooded with good nominations in the next three weeks, then we might need to think creatively about how they’ll fit. Or if there are only a small number of interested artist, then we’ll consider lifting the limit to allow for more pieces from single artist.

to admin dont forget to invite the convicts/the big fella tours maybe we could film it for a show what do you think

  11. 11 vivavoce

Hate to be a pain admin, but now I’ve thought about it why Tuesday and depending on the time (I thought 6.30 was mentioned) that will mean peakhour traffic and some people may still be finishing work and not everyone lives on that side of town (I’m sounding like a big whinger I know). Any chance it could be a weekend or Friday night 7.30-8ish. Just a thought, don’t know if anyone else agrees.

When will all us, who don’t want to be exhibitors, be able to register our interest so we will be able to get one of the exclusive invites? I really really want to come!

  13. 13 theshadow

If i have any say (and it was my idea) Nookster non contributors should get first preference to attend.

And, it it were possible, friday night would be better.

I realise it may be a question of availability.

skymija - first thing first, we need exhibitors. Once we have sufficient entries then we’ll be able to open registration for invites. Look for details after July 20. (By then we should know if there has been interest from enough artists to have an exhibition).

tours1 - glad to hear you want to be a part of the event. Feel free to drop the admin team a line to discuss the options.

vivavoce - it is impossible to find a time and date that will suit everyone. I know theshadow certainly experienced difficulty when trying to schedule the initial meeting of interested artists. We will try our best, but ultimately we need to accept the fact that not everyone will be available at the same time or date.

theshadow - Tuesday was nominated because it is generally a “quite” day in many peoples’ diaries - and thus less likely to clash with other social commitments generally.

Trev, fair point. Wasn’t a criticism, just a how come!

trev, I appreciate that getting a time/day to suit all is not easy, sorry to harass.

shadowmaster, I’m still trying to finish something and really I don’t know that I’m an artist just I’d like to be one, so is mediocrity ok zbdsk (the cat just walked on the key board).

brian I am sooo looking foward to your exhibit :) (’course I may be being a bit presumptuous here, I may not get an invite)

From what i understand, there might/ may be a selection panel, organising committee made up of ‘hard core’art nooksters. In this way, there may be a degree of flexibility in respect of quality of art work.

Surely the bottom line is, it is an exhibiton of nookster artists, and as such, is not strictly totally professional.

I’m looking forward to this, better get my creative juices flowing so I can whip something up :D Great suggestion by the Shadow! :)

  22. 22 cacophony

    Alright, I have an idea.

Nooknews, can you save me a corner space at eye level? I’ll probably only need 20cm space along each wall. Is that cool?

  23. 23 theshadow

    Well done, and thanks guys.

If this goes well, shadowmaster will open his own:
gallery / cafe / live music venue.

So i hope this goes really really well. I need the inspiration and perhaps motivation.

Then again, there seems to be a lot of talented nooksters out there / here.
